Manga fans often look for easy ways to read their favorite stories online. One name that comes up a lot in search results is MyReadingManga. If you have seen this name and wondered what it is, this guide will help you understand it better. We will look at what the site offers, what kind of content it has, and what you should know before you visit it.
What Is MyReadingManga?
MyReadingManga is a website where users can read manga and comics online without paying a fee. It has been active for many years and has built a large following among certain groups of manga readers. The site works like an online library. People can search for titles, click on them, and start reading right away in their web browser.
Unlike big official platforms, MyReadingManga does not sell licensed manga. Instead, it hosts scanned and translated versions of manga that fans have uploaded. This is a common practice on many free manga sites, and it is important to understand what it means before you use one.
What Kind of Content Does It Have?
This is the most important part to understand. MyReadingManga is not a general all-ages manga site like the ones you might find in an app store. Based on how the site describes itself and how readers talk about it online, most of its library is made up of doujinshi. Doujinshi are self-published, fan-made comics that are often sold at conventions in Japan.
A large part of the collection on MyReadingManga is adult and mature content. This includes genres such as yaoi (romance between men), bara (art style focused on men), shota, and other explicit categories. Some parts of the site may have milder content, but the site is widely known for its mature and explicit sections.
Because of this, MyReadingManga is meant for adults only. It is not a safe or suitable site for children or teenagers. If you are looking for family-friendly manga like Naruto, My Hero Academia, or Fruits Basket, you will find better and safer options elsewhere, which we will cover later in this article.
Is MyReadingManga Free to Use?
Yes, the site does not charge a subscription fee. You can browse and read without creating an account. This free access is one of the main reasons people search for the site. However, “free” does not always mean “without cost” in other ways. Many free manga sites make money through ads, and some of these ads can be intrusive or lead to pop-ups. Users often report a high number of ads and redirect links when using sites like this.
Is It Legal to Use MyReadingManga?
This is a question every reader should think about. Most manga on official platforms is licensed. This means the publisher has paid the original creator and has legal permission to share the work. Sites like MyReadingManga usually do not have this kind of license. The manga and doujinshi on the site are often uploaded by fans without permission from the original artists.
This raises real concerns for two groups of people:
- The original creators. Artists who draw doujinshi or manga do not get paid when their work is shared for free on unofficial sites. Many creators rely on sales from their conventions or official releases to support their work.
- The readers. Depending on where you live, downloading or reading unlicensed content may fall into a legal grey area. Laws about this are different in each country, so it is worth checking your local rules if you are unsure.
If you enjoy a series you found on a site like this, a good practice is to support the creator later by buying an official release, if one becomes available.
Common Concerns With Free Manga Sites
Beyond the legal side, there are a few practical things to keep in mind when using any free reading site, including MyReadingManga:
- Pop-up ads and redirects. Free sites often rely heavily on advertising. Some ads can be annoying or lead you to unrelated pages.
- Site reliability. Free manga sites sometimes go offline, change their web address, or get blocked by internet providers. Users have reported that MyReadingManga has faced downtime in the past.
- No official translations. Since the site uses fan translations, the quality can vary. Some chapters may have small errors or unusual wording compared to an official release.
- Security. As with many ad-supported sites, it is smart to use good antivirus software and avoid clicking on suspicious pop-ups or download links.
Who Might Use MyReadingManga?
Given everything above, the audience for MyReadingManga is mostly adult readers who are specifically looking for doujinshi or mature manga genres that are hard to find on official, mainstream platforms. If that describes what you are looking for, it is one of the more well known sites in that space. But if you are new to manga or you want a wide, family-friendly library, this is not the right starting point.
Safer and Legal Alternatives
If you want to read manga online and support the creators at the same time, there are several official platforms worth trying:
- MANGA Plus by Shueisha offers many popular series for free, straight from the publisher.
- Viz Media has a large library of licensed manga, including simulpub chapters that release close to the Japanese version.
- Crunchyroll Manga is included with a Crunchyroll subscription and offers many well-known titles.
- Kodansha’s K MANGA app gives free access to select chapters with ads, similar to how some webtoon apps work.
These platforms are safer, legal, and help pay the artists who create the stories you enjoy.
Final Thoughts
MyReadingManga is a well-known name among readers who are looking for adult and doujinshi content that is not usually found on mainstream, licensed platforms. It offers free access without needing an account, but it comes with real trade-offs. Most of the content is unlicensed, the site is intended for adults only, and there are the usual downsides of ad-supported free sites, such as pop-ups and inconsistent uptime.
Before you decide to use any manga site, it helps to know exactly what you are getting into. If mature, fan-made content is what you are searching for, MyReadingManga is one of the sites people mention most often. But if you want a broader, safer, and creator-friendly experience, the official platforms listed above are a better place to start.
